T2 (3,5 di-iodo-thyronine)
T2 is a thyroid hormone metabolite that has specific actions separate from thyroid hormone receptors:
- It stops ATP from being produced and the energy that was going to be used to for ATP production ends up being "released". Due to this, the muscle cells have no choice but to use stored body fat for energy.
- Additionally,it can raise the basal metabolic rate, this increases energy expenditure.
- T2 promotes the conversion of the inactive thyroid hormone T4 into the active thyroid hormone T3.
- T2 promotes growth hormone release. GH, a potent anabolic hormone, promotes muscle growth and fat loss.
L-carnitine in the cell carries long chain fats into the mitochondria, from there they are oxidized into ATP. If L-carnitine levels in the muscle are increased, the number of fatty acids that get oxidized increases. A problem is that L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine has been unable to penetrate muscle tissue - this is where most fat oxidation takes place.
A new form of L-carnitine, called Propionyl-L-carnitine, has a substantial impact on muscle, both skeletal and cardiac. A study done in 1990, was able to show that propionyl-L-carnitine could help prevent the effects of muscle fatigue and low oxygen in both cardiac and skeletal muscle. Further, propionyl-L-carnitine is able to transport long chain fatty acids into the mitochondria from skeletal muscle.
GREEN TEA EXTRACT
Green Tea Extract (Camellia sinesis leaf) is known to be a potent antioxidant yet new research indicate the active ingredient, EGCG, may have as much as 200 times the antioxidant properties of another well known antioxidant, vitamin E. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition conducted a study that demonstrated that green tea extract caused fatty acid oxidation and a dramatic energy increase. The study noted a 4% increase in energy expenditure over a 24-hour period which translates to a 35-43% increase in daytime thermogenesis. None of the test subjects reported any side effects, such as: rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, or anxiety that are commonly seen with stimulant-based fat burners.
T4, or thyroxin, is a hormone released by the thyroid gland that is actually an inactive form of thyroid hormone that needs to be converted into T3, which is the active thyroid hormone. When you go on a diet, the body tends to slow down the conversion of T4 (inactive) to T3 (active). When this happens, your metabolic rate slows, fat loss slows and progress stops.
In India, The Guggul tree is found in India and exudes a resinous sap that has been used for centuries in Indian traditional medicine. This resinous sap is processed and standardized for its active components: Guggulsterones Z and Guggulsterones E, both supports thyroid function through the conversion of inactive T4 into active T3.
