Articles > Other Resources > Why Training Programs Fail

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced bodybuilder, you will reach a point in time that nothing seems to work. Your frustration level will hit maximize levels as your body seems to refuse to respond regardless of the type of training program or diet you try. While plateaus are something that you're going to have to accept and work through, if you find yourself in a situation that seems to be turning into a long term nightmare, the best thing you can do is step back and take an unbiased look at your progress and accomplishments. Then you need to give a little thought to your weaknesses. In many cases, our expectations of our bodies are simply too high. This is one of the reasons training programs fail.

While you may experience enormous success in the first few months of a training program, your body will adapt quickly, making it extremely important that you're using a little variety in your routines. For every body builder out there that has achieved success, there are just as many who haven’t and still don’t understand why their training programs fail and eventually given up. When choosing a training program for maximize results there are several things you need to be aware of.

Most training programs fail because of:

• A lack of planning. If you don't know where you're going, you're never going to get there. Taking the time to sit down and devise a workout routine and a diet plan are essential to your success. When it's in writing, it's a lot more difficult to veer off the path.

• An inability to see results. Since most bodybuilders are extremely impatient, small accomplishments may be overlooked. At times, you may feel like you haven't made any gains in months. If you're not taking the time to record your progress in a notebook or journal, odds are you really don't have any idea how far you've come. Using a notebook or journal will provide a concise record of your success and failures, allowing you to identify potential problem areas before they manifest themselves.

• A lack of motivation. Bodybuilding is hard work. Your lifestyle is altered considerably. You may find old friends falling by the wayside as the changes you make in how you utilize your free time limits your ability to socialize. If you don't take the extra step to find a workout partner and/or a new group of friends that have similar interests, you'll find that sticking to your plan when you're the only one that seems to think it's important will be much more difficult.

• A lack of research or information. With all of the programs available via the Internet these days, filtering the information you have access to can be difficult and time consuming. Consequently, many bodybuilders make the mistake of assuming that training programs come in one size fits all. The key to success in bodybuilding is in being flexible enough to realize that your body will react differently than someone else's to a particular routine. It's important to be flexible enough to identify what works and what doesn't. Don't take anyone else's word as gospel. You have got to take the time to figure this out yourself.

• A lack of respect for the sport. Many beginners don't realize that bodybuilding is a science. While having the type of physique that they see in a magazine might be their goal, just walking into a gym and pumping iron every day for four hours is not going to achieve the desired results. Understanding how and why your body works the way it does is mandatory.

• A lack of understanding. Bodybuilders tend to work their strongest muscles rather than their weakest ones. We all know that we will take the easy way out if given the opportunity. In the gym, it's much easier to complete the routines that come easily and leave us feeling like we've accomplished something great. The truth is that for a training program to succeed, you've got to tackle the hard stuff first.

• Too many bodybuilders are looking for a quick fix and aren't willing to put in the time and effort to build their muscles the way they should be built. Supplements and steroid use suggest that there's an easier way to attain perfection. In reality, these are often short-term solutions that will end up sabatoging your training. A systemization approach to training and nutrition is the only way to succeed.

• Bodybuilders tend to convince themselves that this is an individual quest and they don't need any help or advice to pursue a successful training program. In reality, the rigors of bodybuilder require a coach or mentor to help you through the tough spots. While you can do it alone, why reinvent the wheel? Find someone that has achieved goals similar to your own and hire them to help you. Ego is probably one of the biggest challenges facing bodybuilders today and the number one reason that training programs fail. Learning the right and most efficient training methods is essential.
Bodybuilding is a sport that is changing everyday. It's important to stay on top of these changes and to be willing to listen when something new comes along.

In short, a successful training program needs to include the right exercises for your body type, a nutritious diet plan, a positive frame of mind and respect for yourself and the others around you. If any one of these is missing or shortchanged, your training program is doomed to failure.
