Various machines have been developed that attempt to duplicate the lateral movement of the deltoids yet do not put any stress on the wrist, elbows, or upper arms. When using these machines, either with one arm at a time or both together, concentrate on feeling the deltoids lift the arm from a position at your side all the way up through the entire range of motion of the machine and then back down again under control, resisting the pull of gravity from the weight stack at all times.
